Boating season is the most wonderful time of the year for the boating enthusiasts, unfortunately it must come to an end when living in the Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati region. But only for a short while, and then we can be back on the water doing what we love. In the mean time, preparing our watercraft for winter, so it's ready to run come spring, is what we need to do.

Here are a few suggestions that may help you out.

1. Treat your boat's fuel with a stabilizer. After adding it to the fuel, run the engine for about 10 minutes to make sure the stabilizer fluid circulates through the engine. This process will help prevent the carburetors and fuel injectors from becoming clogged with deposits that can potentially ruin the fuel system.

2.
Use an aerosol fogging solutions to coat the inside of the engine to protect it until spring. Check your users manual to see which solution your manufacturer recommends that you use and for directions for proper application.

3. Change to oil to eliminate the chance of moisture that could cause corrosion leading to poor performance or possible engine failure.

4. For inboards and stern-drives, locate and open the petcocks underneath the manifolds and on the sides of the engine block. Remove the water-pump hose from the bottom of the water pump to let it drain completely. This step will prevent freezing water expansion and causing possible damage to the engine.

5. Drain gear case lubricant and be sure to recycle. See your users manual for more information on this process.
